Railing Systems for Pedestrian Infrastructure
Built for outdoor exposure, high foot traffic and low maintenance
Foot over bridge railings experience higher loads than typical building balcony railings because groups of pedestrians can press against them simultaneously. IS 875 Part 1 requires a minimum horizontal load of 3 kN per metre for crowd barriers — significantly higher than the 1.5 kN per metre used for commercial building balconies. Our FOB railing systems are designed to the crowd load requirement and fabricated in hot-dip galvanised structural steel for outdoor durability without the maintenance cost of painted systems.
Structural Steel FOB Railings
Mild steel or structural steel posts, horizontal rails and kick plates hot-dip galvanised to 85 microns minimum. Standard FOB railing height 1100–1200mm. Post centres 1500–2000mm. Horizontal rails at 300mm, 600mm and 900mm from the walking surface. Kick plate at 150mm height to prevent objects being kicked off the bridge deck.
Stainless Steel FOB Railings
SS316 posts and rails for FOBs in coastal locations, chemical industrial zones or where a higher aesthetic standard is required. SS316 eliminates the ongoing maintenance of galvanised systems in aggressive environments. Specified for FOBs at airports, metro stations and premium urban pedestrian infrastructure.

What load standard applies to foot over bridge railings?
IS 875 Part 1 requires a minimum horizontal crowd load of 3 kN per metre for pedestrian barriers in locations where crowd pressure may occur — significantly higher than standard building balcony requirements. All our FOB railing systems are designed to this load level.
Why is galvanising used instead of paint for FOB railings?
Hot-dip galvanising provides a zinc coating that is bonded to the steel and protects it from corrosion for 20–40 years in outdoor environments without maintenance. Paint systems degrade and require repainting every 5–7 years — a significant ongoing cost and disruption for public infrastructure. For high-visibility locations, galvanised railings can also be powder-coated for colour.
